Target: Brenda Myers-Powell, Co-Founder of The Dreamcatcher Foundation
Goal: Thank role model for work in saving girls from prostitution and on assisting them with acquiring better lifestyles.
Recently, an inspirational woman who works to save women from prostitution was recognized for her work. Brenda Myers-Powell had a hard life growing up, and has turned her life around to help others in need. Women like Brenda make the world a much brighter place and give others hope for salvation.
Myers-Powell had an extremely hard life growing up in a bad neighborhood with only her grandmother to support her. Myers-Powell started prostituting herself to support her two babies when she 14 years old, and was kidnapped, raped, and beaten by men who forced her to work for them. She was prevented from going home to her grandmother and children, and was stuck in this endless cycle of hell. Myers-Powell toiled for 25 years as a prostitute, enduring countless beatings and verbal abuse by men around her. After a particularly gruesome accident where all the skin on her face and side of body were torn off, Myers-Powell decided it was time to break free from the damaging life she was leading and to start anew.
Now, Myers-Powell is happily married and works at her co-founded not-for-profit organization called “The Dreamcatcher Foundation,” which works to end human trafficking in Chicago. She also runs after-school clubs for troubled young girls. Along with her work, Myers-Powell also attends conferences and contributes to research regarding prostitution. Through all the work and volunteering that she does, Myers-Powell serves as a positive role model as she gives back to the community in supporting a very important cause.
Please sign the petition below to thank Brenda Myers-Powell for working on saving women from prostitution. She did not let her difficult past hinder her from working to help others who are in situations similar to what she unfortunately experienced.
