Target: Travis Koehn, Austin County District Attorney
Goal: Demand harsh punishment for vet who allegedly killed a cat with a bow and arrow.
A licensed veterinarian in Texas will not be charged with anything after shooting a cat with a bow and arrow and posting the picture on Facebook. The grand jury decided not to charge her after the investigation of the incident failed to uncover crucial details necessary for a conviction. Urge authorities to punish the veterinarian for her cruel and violent actions against an innocent animal.
Dr. Kristen Lindsey allegedly shot a stray orange tabby in the back of the head and posted the picture on Facebook in April. The photo showed her proudly holding the limp animal, still dangling from the arrow. She also added the comment: “My first bow kill, lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through its head! Vet of the year award … Gladly accepted.”
The photo spurred many who care for the well-being of animals to be outraged, and thankfully Lindsey was fired from her position at a clinic in Brenham, Texas. The picture on Facebook has been deleted and the grand jury didn’t charge her because the State “lacks proof that this incident even occurred in the state of Texas,” according to the District Attorney. In addition, investigators couldn’t prove animal cruelty because a “bolt to the head” is actually recognized as a legal form of animal euthanasia.
This behavior is disgusting and the fact that Lindsey wasn’t charged with anything is wrong. The grand jury had enough evidence from Lindsey posting a picture and boasting about her animal cruelty herself. Please sign the petition below to urge the District Attorney to seek punishment for this horrible act and conduct a more thorough investigation.
Dear Mr. Koehn,
Recently, a horrible act of animal cruelty occurred when Dr. Kristen Lindsey allegedly posted a picture of her shooting a cat in the head with a bow and arrow and bragged about it on Facebook. Apparently, this was not enough evidence for a grand jury to find her guilty of animal cruelty.
I find this reprehensible because she admitted to committing this cruel act and yet she is still a licensed veterinarian. It isn’t right that Lindsey should get off without any punishment whatsoever. I urge you to conduct a more thorough investigation that will uncover Lindsey’s cruel behavior so that justice can be served.
We need to treat all animals with kindness, and letting someone who shot an innocent cat in the head with a bow and arrow go without any charges is a huge disservice to all animals. Please work to correct this wrong and support the humane treatment of animals.
