Demand Etsy Remove Confederate Flag Products

Target: Etsy Chief Executive Officer, Chad Dickerson

Goal: Immediately stop the sale of Confederate Flag merchandise.

In the wake of the hate crime in Charleston, South Carolina that killed nine black people in a church, prompting some, rightfully so, to call it an act of terror, corporations such as Walmart, Amazon, Sears, and eBay have decided to stop selling all Confederate Flag merchandise. As well as being an act of solidarity for citizens of Charleston and black people across the United States, it shows that the Confederate Flag is not only extremely prevalent in society, but still holds deep meaning behind a painful historical context for many.

While it is a great first step for these corporations to ban the sale of Confederate Flag merchandise, it is still easy to buy these goods. Unfortunately, while this type of merchandise is still easy accessible, the painful reminder of the shooting and what the Confederate Flag truly means will be easily accessible as well.

Etsy, a corporation that sells homemade and vintage goods, has not issued a statement on removing the flag merchandise from its website. Currently, you can buy anything from Confederate Flag salt and pepper shakers to bows made for cheerleaders. Sign this petition urging Etsy’s Chief Executive Officer Chad Dickerson to remove products that promote an intolerant and hateful ideology.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Dickerson,

I am writing this petition letter to ask you to remove all Confederate Flag merchandise from your website. In the wake of the Charleston shooting in which nine black people were killed in a hate crime that some are calling terrorism, continuing to sell this paraphernalia only promotes the kind of ideology that spurred this horrible act.

Corporate competitors such as Walmart, Amazon, Sears, and eBay have all promised to stop selling Confederate Flag paraphernalia. Banning the flag could thrust your business into the national spotlight and attract more and more consumers who are wanting to buy products that come from an ethical source. Not only would banning the Confederate Flag be the right thing to do, but it may be an extremely wise business decision for the future of your company.

You have the incredible opportunity to better the world by refusing to sell this hateful merchandise. I hope you make the right moral and ethical decision to stop selling the Confederate Flag and related merchandise on Etsy.

Sincerely,
