Target: Ohio Governor, John Kasich
Goal: Abolish taxes on expensive and essential feminine hygiene products.
A proposal to eliminate taxes on feminine hygiene products could reduce the amount of money women spend on these products annually. Over the years, this could make a significant difference, especially in a family consisting of multiple women. Ask Ohio Governor John Kasich to sign legislation to eliminate taxes on necessary health care products for women.
Women already earn less money than their male counterparts. To add insult to injury, women are also charged a higher fee for several products and services used by both men and women. These various charges come out to well over $1000 a year, making a huge difference over the course of a lifetime. Feminine hygiene products are simply another addition to this list.
They’re an expensive necessity most women wish they didn’t have to dish out quite so much for. Though less expensive brands are available, they are often undesirable, uncomfortable, and even dangerous in some cases. Eliminating taxes on this healthcare necessity will make a difference for families across the state and especially in households with more than one woman.
This seemingly small step would actually go a long way in relieving women of one of the many extra expenses we incur. Please sign this petition to ask Governor John Kasich to eliminate taxes on feminine hygiene products.
Dear Governor Kasich,
Several states have already abolished taxes on feminine hygiene products and Ohio now has an opportunity to follow in these footsteps. Feminine products are considered a healthcare necessity that quickly adds up through the years. These products are expensive enough on their own without women having to pay a tax on an item that is not optional.
I am sure you’re familiar with the “pink tax” prevalent in our society. This refers to businesses and services charging higher fees for female customers. In most cases, this is unwarranted and completely unfair. Still, it is an unfortunate circumstance many have come to accept.
This is, however, not acceptable. Eliminating taxes on feminine products would be an additional step in the fight for equality between men and women. Though it is a small step, it serves as a way to even the playing field in a society that so blatantly favors men in all ways.
Please eliminate taxes on feminine hygiene products and cut down costs on this healthcare necessity.
