Prohibit Abusers from Working with Animals

Target: Kevin Shea, Administrator of Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services, United States Department of Agriculture

Goal: Revoke zoo owners’ license to work with animals, if found guilty of alleged abuse.

Two zoo owners allegedly neglected and abused several animals. Many more innocent creatures will likely die if their license to work with animals is not revoked.

Eric and Meghan Mogensen have been accused of abusing animals at two Virginia zoos and one Florida zoo. Some of the allegations made by the U.S. Department of Agriculture include giving animals expired medicine, leaving food bins dirty, not providing tiger enclosures with adequate ventilation, not providing goats and sheep with proper shelter and even shooting and drowning animals under their care.

Although both people have been brought up on charges and Ms. Mogensen will no longer be allowed to make decisions about either animal care or euthanasia in Virginia, her and her father may continue to work as zookeepers in Florida if their license that allows them to do this type of work is not revoked.

Sign this petition and urge officials to make it illegal for both Eric and Meghan Mogensen to ever work with animals again, if they are found guilty of their crimes. They are obviously only in the business for the money and animals do not deserve to continue to suffer because they are under the care of greedy scumbags.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Shea,

A couple of zoo owners have been accused of neglecting and severely abusing animals. If these people do not have their license revoked that allows them to work in the field, many more creatures will likely die while under their care.

Eric and Meghan Mogensen allegedly abused animals at the Reston Zoo and Virginia Safari Park in Virginia, as well as at the Gulf Breeze Zoo in Florida. In fact, many animals were not only found to be living in unfit conditions, they were also not provided with proper vet care and were shot and drowned, instead of humanely euthanized.

While it is good news that these callous zoo owners will likely be fined, it is absolutely irresponsible to ever allow them to work with animals again. Suspending their license is not a harsh enough penalty, as it is obvious from their actions that the Mogensens only care about potential income and do not at all care about animal welfare.

For all of these reasons, I urge you to revoke Eric and Meghan Mogensen’s license that allows them to work in the zoo keeping and animal industry if they are found guilty. Allowing these monsters to ever work with animals again after they harshly abused so many of them is not only unethical, it is also completely heartless.

Sincerely,
