Stop Hiding Tampon Dangers and Prevent More Women Losing Legs

Target: Jay Gottleib, President, Adult and Feminine Care Sector at Kimberly-Clark

Goal: Stop labeling tampons as natural and instead label that they contain man-made, synthetic materials that increase the risk of the deadly Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Lauren Wasser of California is suing the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, which manufactures and distributes of Kotex Natural Balance tampons, after she lost her leg from Toxic Shock Syndrome after using the Kotex tampons. Although these tampons claim to be “natural,” they apparently contain man-made, synthetic materials that create the perfect storm for Toxic Shock Syndrome. TSS is a life-threatening bacterial infection that can cause limbs to be lost, such is the case with Wasser, or death.

TSS became an epidemic decades ago thanks to the use of these materials, yet companies have done nothing to change the use of synthetic materials to decrease the risk of TSS. Instead, they throw a small warning label letting users know they can get TSS from using the tampons, but Wasser claims this warning is not adequate. The fact that the companies not only refuse to use a safer product, but also lie and tout their products as natural is unethical and wrong.

Amidst Wasser’s lawsuit, demand that Kotex start better labeling the use of synthetic materials and its products and the dangers of these synthetic materials.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Jay Gottleib,

Lauren Wasser of California is suing your company Kimberly-Clark Corporation, which manufactures and distributes of Kotex Natural Balance tampons, after she lost her leg from Toxic Shock Syndrome after using the Kotex tampons. You claim that your tampons are “natural,” but they apparently contain man-made, synthetic materials that create the perfect storm for Toxic Shock Syndrome.

The fact that you not only seem to refuse to use a safer product, but also tout your products as natural is unethical and wrong.

I urge you to start better labeling the use of synthetic materials in your products and the dangers of these synthetic materials.

Sincerely,
