Target: Joe Straus, Speaker of the Texas House
Goal: Propose legislation to aid in preventing the unnecessary deaths of children in shooting accidents.
Jim Bob Little, owner of the 9 Bar Ranch in Wise County, Texas, accidentally shot and killed his grandson, Callen Little, while they were hunting at the ranch recently.
It was reported that the grandson and grandfather were hunting at a stand during a controlled release of pheasant birds. Without his grandfather realizing, the boy left the stand and ended up where the grandfather was shooting. The 9-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the chest by his grandfather’s gun just as the pheasants were released.
The most saddening thing about fatal incidents like this is that they could have been prevented. In recent years, nearly 4,000 people have died from unintentional shootings. Don’t let the horrific death of a little boy be in vain. Urge Texas lawmakers to propose legislation to require higher safety standards when children are in the presence of guns.
Dear Honorable Speaker of the Texas House Joe Straus,
Recently, Callen Little was accidentally shot in the chest and killed by his grandfather, Jim Bob Little, while they were hunting at the family ranch. The worst part about this tragedy is that it could have and should have been prevented. Thousands of people die from unintentional shootings every year, and this cannot be happening.
In the wake of this little boy’s death, I urge you to propose legislation that would require higher safety standards when children are in the presence of guns.
