Criminalize Animal Cruelty in Malaysia

photo-by-cocoparisienne

Target: Malaysia Prime Minister, Najib Razak

Goal: Properly punish those found guilty of animal abuse.

Hefty fines and jail time for animal abuse may soon be imposed in Malaysia, thanks to new legislation. The initiative applies to both citizens and government officials and highlights the importance of humanity toward animals. Urge Prime Minister Najib Razak to support efforts to criminalize animal cruelty and promote humanity.

The proposal will cover all animals, providing an efficient law that will apply to a multitude of situations. Perhaps more significant is the fact that it applies to government officials, ensuring no group is given special treatment. All are considered equal under the new animal welfare bill that would see animal cruelty fines range from 5,000 to 25,000 U.S. dollars. For serious cases, jail time of up to three years would be considered.

The bill signifies significant changes in Malaysia’s attitude toward animals and even suggests a need for education regarding the legality of specific actions. This is an important piece of legislation for Malaysia that will discourage citizens from acting inappropriately toward animals. Children will grow up in a world where animal cruelty is not allowed and humane treatment of animals will become more commonplace.

Please sign this petition to ask Prime Minister Najib Razak to support the criminalization of animal cruelty in Malaysia.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister Razak,

Malaysia has an opportunity to make great strides forward in the fight against animal cruelty. Establishing laws regarding such actions ensures a decrease in violence that is extremely important. Please support legislation to criminalize animal cruelty and contribute to a culture that does not accept violence.

I believe the specifics set forth in this initiative will prove most beneficial to society at large. A law that applies to all citizens, including those in a position of power, will ensure fairness and equal treatment.

Current progress made to eliminate animal cruelty will have a lasting impact. It is important to establish these laws now, so as to ensure a significant decline in the future. A hefty fine for animal cruelty will decrease repeat offenders and force citizens to think before they act. Those still compelled to commit acts of abuse toward animals will experience proper punishment that will keep them away from any future victims.

Please criminalize animal cruelty immediately and vow to properly punish those in the wrong while protecting innocent animals from harm.

Sincerely,
