Save Obamacare from Defunding and Collapse

Pro-Obamacare Rally

Target: U.S. Congress House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy

Goal: Prevent the elimination of financial aid from the Obamacare program to stop it from falling apart.

The Supreme Court is ruling within the month on the King vs. Burwell case which challenges the subsidies in the Affordable Care Act. If the case is ruled in favor of King and federal subsidies are removed, it would remove the critical support aspect of the program’s implication and most likely cause it to fail completely. Tell Congress’ House Majority Leader that Obamacare funding needs to stay in place for the sake of hundreds of thousands of Americans that rely on federal healthcare.

The case originated in the very specific and rare hypothetical of the law that entails a user of Obamacare accessing aid through an exchange established by the state, which people have criticized by saying that those in states without health insurance exchanges shouldn’t receive subsidies. However, clauses elsewhere in the federal legislation make it very clear that subsidies are available to anyone buying health insurance that fit a certain economic standard. If the Supreme Court rules in favor of this small technicality, it would lead to a disastrous domino effect that would harm all of America’s economy which includes over six million people losing their vital government assistance and causing premiums to more than double.

Currently, Republicans controlling the House and Senate are fighting tooth and nail against anything that would allow Obamacare to continue. They have repeatedly made efforts to repeal Obamacare though the President has refused to sign any bills on the subject. But this issue stretches far beyond a federal government snit. This verdict could mean the jeopardy of millions of American’s health and cause a ripple effect to make insurance unaffordable to even more people. Our only hope is to reach out to the House Majority Leader and hope that he will help us prevent this tragedy in the disastrous case that the verdict is found in King’s favor.

Dear House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy,

Obamacare is under attack yet again. The verdict of the King vs. Burwell case will be released in just under a month and could risk the removal of all Obamacare subsidies due to an insignificant technicality. While an Obamacare user could access financial subsidies through state-established exchanges in states without health insurance exchange, the Affordable Care Act states clearly and multiple times that subsidies are available to anyone that fit a certain economic standard. If the case is ruled in King’s favor, over six million Americans will lose government assistance and premiums may more than double for some citizens.

This case goes beyond the political back-and-forth between Republicans and Democrats over Obamacare. In the case that this program lost its subsidies, the very foundation of national health insurance would collapse and jeopardize the health of millions of Americans who use it. Without financial aid, countless citizens will drop out of their insurance programs for affordability reasons and thus cause the counter-intuitive result of insurance prices rising even more. Then, when even more citizens back out of their insurance for lack of affordability, it will cause a ripple effect that would bring relentless turmoil to the insurance market.

In the unimaginable scenario that the U.S. Supreme Court rules in the favor of King in this case, I am asking you to do whatever it takes to prevent the subsidies from being completely removed from Obamacare under the ACA. The health of millions of Americans, in some cases even their lives, rely on the preservation of Obamacare aid.
