Stop Torturing Animals for Military Surgery Practice

Target: Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter

Goal: End all use of live animal torture for military medical and surgical training.

Thousands of live animals every year are being shot, dismembered, and stabbed for the sake of military medical training. This is a cruel and unnecessary practice that cannot be allowed to go on. Demand that the military immediately end all live animal testing for its surgery and medical training.

“Live-tissue training” is a euphemism for intentionally harming animals for use in medical and surgical education. Unfortunately, the United States military is a big fan of this practice. For the sake of its “combat trauma training,” the military heartlessly shoots, stabs, dismembers, and otherwise maims live animals like pigs and goats and then asks its trainees to keep the animals alive—and in tremendous pain—for as long as possible.

A few years ago the military responded to public pressure and vowed to phase out this abusive form of medical training over time for certain types of medical education, and to its credit it has. The issue is that it is still being used for other types of military medical education, and as a result thousands of animals are still being subjected to unspeakable horrors every single year.

Animals do not deserve to be tortured, even for military medical training. Alternative training methods are available and yet our armed forces refuses to adopt them across the board. Sign the petition below to demand that the military immediately cease all use of live animals for its medical and surgical training.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Carter,

I am writing you today regarding the use of live-tissue training in our armed forces. This practice is unjustifiable and must be put to a final end without delay.

Live-tissue training, in case you do not know, is a method of medical and surgical practice wherein perfectly healthy animals are mortally injured and then operated on by medical and surgical trainees who try to keep the animals alive for as long as possible before they inevitably die. These animals are shot, stabbed, dismembered, and otherwise tortured, and then forced to live on in agony for as long as possible.

To say this practice is inhumane would be an incredible understatement. Indeed, the military has already phased out its use in certain areas of medical training. Unfortunately, it continues to be used in other areas, including combat trauma training.

This animal torture has gone on too long—it is time for it to be phased out of the entirety of military medical and surgical training. I demand that you ban the use of all live-tissue training in all the our military’s medical training.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. The continuation of live-tissue training by the military is unacceptable! It essentially is tax-supported inhumane torture of innocent sentient creatures! Secretary of Defense, Ashton Carter, you must do the right thing and end this very cruel and in this day and age unnecessary practice for military medical training. Medicine has progressed beyond the 18th and 19th century surgery practices. It’s time for military medical training to progress beyond that stage also by ending the barbaric practice of live-tissue training.

    • You do realize this helps save soldiers lives, right? Does that have no importance to you? Is that animals life used for educational purposes worth more than someone risking their life for your freedom? I hope you say no, because if not you can go fight for your own freedom. While I love animals and hate people that inflict harm, this is not done because they are mentally sick and want to hurt animals. It’s to save lives.

There are MUCH better ways of doing this type of training. Number one, Medical school training followed by trauma center training. Animals anatomy may be similar to humans but it is NOT the same. Military corpsmen and surgeons simply need to train in Trauma center type ERs.

          Thank you.
Outstanding Ignorance in medical “sciences”, its blind “research” and hellish practicing financed by brainless for-profit industries, military rulers, government or crazy sponsors, have turned our postmodern society into true man-made Hell. This is the FACT wellknown to advanced sciences, they work on Replacing mad practices.

What a horrific bunch of idiots from Hell who support this bloody “PRACTICES”!! These Supporters are so convenient for legalizing monstrosity of all sorts !!
A hypocrite preaches one thing, and does another.

      • Cry me a river mate, what does that have to do with innocent animals if man cannot stop warring, animals should pay for it. They can all fucken die for all I give a shit. War is wrong and so is torturing innocent animals. Why is a human life worth more than an animals. Most humans are worse than animals. I say can’t wait for all of humanity to die….give the planet and animals a chance. So every time there is a war little animals have to suffer in the most cruelest ways. Bright spark you are. Military don’t give a fuck about dying soldiers if they did they would be sending them off to die. The whole thing is immoral and savage.

        • Great comment. Any act of bloody Human violence is manifesting mental illness. Nothing to do about “EDUCATION”. MILITARY GUYS BECOME HOPELESSLY MENTALLY SICK because of such “learning” and Practicing.. THE GRAND LAW IN TRUE MEDICAL PROFESSION IS ENTIRELY ABOUT MERCY – a true doctor is a HEALER and Never Destroys and Kills in order to “learn” how to “save lives”.
He learns profoundly from MERCY and intuitive Compassion. Our medical and military industries are HELLISH MENTAL INSTITUTIONS based upon mad “sciences” – they NEVER LEARN A THING but easily manipulate ignorant idiots, making their insane systems and ideas “work”.
WE ALL MUST WAKE UP and move into the 21st century from bloody dark middleages of “learning” and “practicing”

      • I never asked them too. I am against war, and most wars are for economical gains and oil. Games for the rich boys to line there pockets. So if soldiers want to die for nothing that is their choice, give the same choice to animals. People esp military always excuse the horrors they inflict with the excuse of saving us. Bull shit. No disrespect to soldiers but what a stupid excuse.

  3. THEY DONT TORTURE AND MUTILATE GOATS AND PIGS WHEN TRAINING DOCTORS FOR SURGERY IN OUR HOSPITALS AND SOME OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO END UP IN EMERGENCY ARE ROAD TRAUMA VICTIMS, WITH TRAUMATIC INGERIES, SO WHY DO THEMILITARY HAVE TO TRAIN THERE DOCTORS BY TORTURING AND MUTILATING GOATS AND PIGS, THIS IS OUT AND OUT CRUELTY AND IF I WERE A DOCTOR IN THE MILITARY I WOULD REFUSE TO DO IT, EVEN IF I WAS KICKED OUT OF THE MILITARY, NOTHING IS WORTH THIS EVILNESS, TORTURING ANIMALS DOSE NOT HELP HUMANS THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT ANATOMY, SO PLEASE THIS EVIL HAS TO BE STOPPED.

  4. “So many people insist they are against animal abuse, cruelty, suffering and the inhumane treatment of animals, yet they don’t understand they are actively engaging in and supporting egregious suffering, abuse, cruelty and inhumane treatment when they eat animals and their ‘by-products.’ If you are against cruelty, suffering and inhumane treatment, then you go vegan. It’s just that simple.” – Sarah Kiser

  5. Cecily Colloby says:

Whoever you are, “S”-I notice you don’t have the courage of your convictions to give your name- you are talking total rubbish. Soldiers choose to join up and fight and the human race causes wars. Animals don’t do either and we have NO RIGHT whatsoever to use and abuse them for ANY reason.

    • Nova Town says:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT CLEAR COMMENT! THESE HELLISH “MEDICAL PRACTICES” badly violate not only animal rights but our own human rights as well.

Both kinds, solders and “medical professionals” must stay far away from ALL animals and our children.

  6. End the use of live animals. The use of animals for is unnecessary, cruel, merciless, unconscionable and needless. Most reputable, accredited medical institutions do NOT use live animals for training and research purposes. There are other options, other programs — human-based methods such as medical simulation, which is documented to provide equivalent or superior training compared to the use of animals. Please end the practice of using animals IMMEDIATELY and make the switch to simulation.
