Target: Mr. Victor Espinoza, Jockey of American Pharoah
Goal: Commend Triple-Crown-winning jockey’s donation of prize winnings to cancer research.
In a heartening show of philanthropy a jockey has donated his prize winnings to City of Hope, a cancer research organization. The jockey, Victor Espinoza, said that he wanted the money to go to a good purpose and he has most decidedly ensured that it will. This type of giving is wonderful to see and helps to remind everyone that people are inherently good. He deserves to be thanked and commended for his selflessness.
Espinoza is part of a team run by Bob Baffert, who has been called the greatest horse trainer of all time. After his team won, he showed that he is at least one of the most charitable by giving $50,000 to the Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund. Another $50,000 will go to the Old Friends Farm, a retirement home of sorts for race horses past their prime. The horses at the farm are treated exceedingly well and loved greatly by their caretakers. Baffert said of his donations, “I want to share this, I want to make sure that those horses that we really love, we have to take care of them.”
This show of charity alone would have been wonderful, but then Espinoza went on to donate all of his winnings to cancer research. Estimates put the amount at about $80,000 and about the money Espinoza said, “For me, today was not about money. Whatever I make I will donate to people with cancer. Hopefully that can help young kids to get better.” This kind of giving spirit is truly rare and Espinoza deserves thanks, even if he doesn’t want it. Please sign here to commend these donations to good causes and encourage others to donate in the future.
Dear Mr. Espinoza,
I would like to congratulate you for your magnificent victory at the Belmont Stakes and for winning the Triple Crown. I am also writing because of your selfless donation to a cancer research foundation. Your gift will do wonders to help children suffering from multiple types of cancer and for that I cannot thank you enough. Few would be willing to part with such an amount of money so fast but it is clear that there was never any doubt in your mind or your heart.
Philanthropic gestures like your donation and the donations of American Pharoah’s trainer help to show everyone that people are essentially good and capable of great things. I wish you the best of luck over the rest of your career and I urge you to continue your charitable spirit. Thank you Mr. Espinoza; the world needs more giving spirits like yours.
