Target: CEO of IKEA, Peter Agnefjall
Goal: Applaud Ikea for pledging $1.13 billion toward stopping climate change and aiding poor nations.
IKEA is fighting to protect impoverished nations from climate change by pledging $1.13 billion (1 billion euros) to help them cope with the effects and toward renewable energy. Climate change affects all regions of the world, but those that can cope with these changes are those who have the resources available at their disposal. Poor countries will suffer the most, as they do not have the resources or the funding to combat natural disasters. CEO Peter Agnefjall should be commended for this action, as it will raise awareness on our environment.
CEO Peter Agnefjall is quoted as saying, “It’s good for customers, good for the climate and good for IKEA too.” IKEA is known as the largest furniture retailer in the world and has made recent progressive decisions. The company intends on spending 600 million euros in solar and wind power, while devoting 400 million euros towards helping families and nations living in areas prone to drought, flooding, and other natural disasters.
IKEA is building on its reputation of being an environmentally friendly company. In 2009, IKEA spent 1.5 billion euros to make the company energy independent. As companies are becoming the main source of carbon emissions around the world, it is imperative that they rely on renewable energy instead of burning coal or other resources that emit carbon. Sign this petition and applaud IKEA for investing in green energy and aiding poor nations.
Dear CEO Peter Agnefjall,
Recently, your company pledged $1.13 billion toward helping families and nations in disaster prone areas and toward renewable energy. As an individual concerned about the state of our environment, I am writing this letter to commend your decision. It is unfortunate that many companies around the world are contributing to the problem of climate change, but it is also possible for them to reverse this problem.
However, IKEA is going a step further by not only preventing the problem, but helping those that will be affected the most by climate change. It is unfortunate that poor countries will not have the resources or manpower to help its people should disaster strike. Your pledge will help save lives in the near future, and I hope other companies follow suit.
The issue of climate change is a problem that humans together created, and is it an issue that requires everyone to solve. Thank you for setting an example for other companies to follow, and I hope IKEA will continue to care for the environment.
