Investigate Human Rights Violations

Target: UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein

Goal: Investigate human rights violations and improve current conditions in Ukraine.

A United Nations report states that serious human rights violations in eastern Ukraine are deeply affecting the five million residents in the conflict areas. The violations include shelling, executions, arbitrary and illegal detentions, torture, human trafficking, lack of justice and accountability, and the withholding of economic and social rights.

The report also states that between April of 2014 and May 0f 2015, at least 6,417 people have been killed in the conflict zone of eastern Ukraine. There were at least 626 women and girls included in the figure, and 15,962 have also been wounded in the conflict. The UN Human Rights Monitoring Team in Ukraine also recognizes that these are conservative figures, and the numbers may be much higher.

Despite the adoption of the Minsk Agreements in Ukraine, indiscriminate shelling has not ceased. The citizens continue to live in fear for their lives. UN representatives have also documented a number of summary executions that may have been perpetrated by Ukrainian armed forces. If these allegations were to be found true, it would constitute a war crime. Whoever these armed groups are that are responsible for such violations, they need to be addressed and punished.

These blatant violations of human rights in Ukraine have deeply affected the entire populations. Citizens live in fear in their own homes, knowing that they are not safe when they leave them. Please sign this petition in order for the UN to investigate the violations in order to find the individuals responsible for continual disregard for human rights, so that the quality of life for Ukrainian people may improve.

Dear UN High Commissioner al-Hussein,

The human rights violations in the Ukraine are devastating. They include shelling, executions, illegal detention, torture, and human trafficking. Despite the Minsk Agreement, there is still indiscriminate shelling in the conflict-ridden area of eastern Ukraine.

The Ukrainian people live in fear. Around 6,417 of them have been killed, and another 15,962 have been injured. These numbers are merely estimates, and the figures could be devastatingly higher.

Please investigate the human rights violations being committed, and punish those who are responsible. The only way for the citizens of Ukraine to have safety and peace will be to stop those responsible for continual disregard for human life. I support an investigation by the UN in order to improve the quality of life for those living in the conflict-area of eastern Ukraine.
