Thank Mayor for Proposing Improved Animal Shelter

Target: Louisville Kentucky Mayor Greg Fischer

Goal: Thank mayor for recommending funding for a better animal shelter.

For decades, Louisville Metro Animal Services have dealt with countless problems concerning its animal shelter. After years of patience, the department might finally receive the funding it desperately needs for its facilities in 2016. With strong support from the city mayor, they are trying to propose more funding for a new animal shelter.

The Louisville Metro Animal Services is looking to replace its Manslick Road Animal Shelter with an improved shelter. The Manslick Road shelter was built in the 1960s and was originally meant to be used as a temporary space for their animals. Now, the number of animals has reached record highs and the shelter is just too small to fit all of them. On top of that, the shelter is sitting on a flood plain, which puts it at risk of flooding. Sadly in 2008, the shelter was so badly flooded that a number of animals did not survive. The incident resulted in the installment of a new drainage system, but now that is not enough to fix the problem.

In a budget proposal, Mayor Greg Fischer is recommending that about $2 million dollars needs to be used to build a new animal shelter. The Louisville Metro Animal Services is also getting ready to launch a capital campaign to raise extra money needed to make this new shelter a reality.

Please sign this petition to thank Mayor Greg Fischer for recommending funds be used to build a new animal shelter for the animals of Louisville, Kentucky.

Dear Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer,

The Manslick Road animal shelter in Louisville, Kentucky was built back in the 1960s as a temporary place to hold animals. Although it was meant to be temporary, the building is still being used to house all of the shelter’s animals. Because of this, animals have suffered and died because the facility is built on a flood plain and has flooded numerous times.

Thank you for recommending that funds be raised toward building a new facility for Louisville Metro Animal Services at the city’s latest budget hearings. In order to save the lives of animals, a proper facility needs to be put in place to house all of them. Hopefully the budget proposal will follow through and the Louisville animals will have a new and improved home to live in.
