Save Animals from Abuse and a Diet of Trash at Shanghai Zoo

fallow deer by Johann-Nikolaus Andreae

Target: Chinese authorities

Goal: Close Shanghai Zoo to prevent animal suffering.

The Shanghai Zoo has lost more animals as three fallow deer were found dead. Autopsies on the animals show that the deer had been living with at least 13 pounds of trash in their stomachs.

The Shanghai Zoo has long been known for its rowdy visitors who feed the animals and leave trash in their living spaces. The visitors have also been known to throw bottles and other pieces of trash at the defenseless animals. Because trash is constantly thrown in the animals’ enclosures, the animals are living among the waste and eating it. This has lead to many deaths over the years.

Urge Chinese authorities to close down the zoo and re-home the animals.

Dear Chinese Authorities,

Three fallow deer have died recently and were found to have over 13 pounds of trash in their stomachs. This is just the most recent incident where animals were found to have eaten trash at the zoo.

Sources say the visitors to this zoo routinely throw trash at the animals and feed them things they’re not supposed to eat. This is abuse and it must stop. We the undersigned urge you to  close down the zoo and re-home the animals to prevent more animals from suffering.
