Prevent Animal Deaths From Fires at Pet Store

pet store by NWevurski

Target: Pet World

Goal: Prevent deaths of animals by devising fire safety procedures.

A brutal fire broke out at a Pet World in Lawrence, Kansas recently. The pet store’s staff and rescue crews came to help fight the blaze and save the animals. However, no small mammals or birds survived. Several reptiles and tarantulas did survive, though, and triage areas were set up to give them the care they needed.

As of right now the cause of the fire has not been determined, and the store was closed when the blaze broke out. Pet World needs to take better care of the defenseless animals it sells. Urge the company to devise a fire prevention plan to save animals’ lives in the future.

Dear Pet World,

A deadly blaze broke out at your store in Lawrence, Kansas recently. While many reptiles were saved, all of the small mammals and birds perished in the fire.

By selling these animals and keeping them in your stores, you are by default responsible for their safety. Please don’t let this happen again. We the undersigned urge you to devise a fire prevention plan to prevent the senseless deaths of so many innocent animals in the future.

  1. It is inexcusable for a store to have animals and not protect them from danger–especially fires! Burning alive is a horribly cruel death! If this isn’t a crime, it, certainly, should be! Pet stores shouldn’t sell animals, anyway–only supplies. They are treated like objects. They are more than just a source of income. They are living creatures who suffered immensely, because Pet World did not care enough to have a fire prevention plan, in effect, including a sprinkler system!

  2. Nicola Marsden says:

This is disgusting snd heartbreaking. This pet store should never have been allowed to open with such fire risks! As a result, some poor living souls have bwen destroyed!!!

  3. Stephanie Brockwell says:

Pet stores should not be allowed to sell animals. Most of these are obtained from puppy mills, kittens, etc. The animals being sold in pet stores are usually sick, mistreated, and add to the unspeakable, horrible conditions of puppy mills across this country! Rescue an animal from a shelter or breed organization! Help stop the cruelty inflicted on these living, loving, sentient beings that are not property but creatures that feel but have no voice!
