Applaud Collaboration to Provide Improved Mental Health Emergency Services

Target: Steven C. Hansen, President and CEO of Presbyterian Medical Services

Goal: Applaud agencies’ collaboration to provide improved mental health emergency services.

Mobile Crisis Response Teams will now assist various Santa Fe County Police Departments in an effort to provide better care to citizens in distress. The Presbyterian Medical Services are expanding efforts to allow trained professionals to arrive on location. This is a huge step in the right direction for mental health care and will bridge the gap between technical training and psychological care. Thank the Presbyterian Medical Services and the county of Santa Fe for improving mental health emergency services to all citizens.

In response to emergency calls, Santa Fe Police will arrive and assess the situation before determining whether a Mobile Crisis Response Team is necessary. If needed, the response team will arrive shortly thereafter, more often than not in the case of domestic abuse and severe behavioral problems. From there, the Presbyterian Medical Services may take over to provide long-term mental health care to those in need.

Despite rigorous training, police officers often find themselves unprepared for cases involving mental health issues. This lack of knowledge is dangerous for all involved and demonstrates a need for public services to join together to increase efficiency.

Please sign this petition to thank Mobile Crisis Response Teams and the county of Santa Fe for protecting citizens to the best of their ability.

Dear Mr. Hansen,

The Presbyterian Medical Services has done amazing work in the field of mental health and the county of Santa Fe will benefit even more from an increase in services. The addition of Mobile Crisis Response Teams to assist police officers is a great use of resources and I hope this trend will continue to spread.

Too often, police officers find themselves in difficult situations in which they have received little to no training. This is where a crisis team steps in to bridge the gap between the two and ensure all parties are safe and receive necessary treatment.

In addition to on-site services, Presbyterian Medical Services will be able to help more citizens than ever before. Proper treatment and long term care will significantly improve the lives of many. In addition, police officers will be put at ease knowing citizens are placed in good hands.

Thank you for your assistance in this collaboration sure to benefit the entire state of New Mexico.
