Target: President and CEO of Discovery Communications David Zaslav
Goal: Praise the network for pulling the show “Nineteen Kids and Counting” from TLC.
It has recently come to light that Josh Duggar of the popular reality show “Nineteen Kids and Counting” had allegedly sexually molested five underage girls, of which some are his sisters, when he was a young teenager. According to police reports, Duggar’s father allegedly waited more than a year before handing over his then teenage son to the police for sex offenses that included forcible fondling.
Although Duggar has apologized for his actions, it is simply not enough. Action needed to be taken to show that the world takes the sexual abuse of children very seriously and it is extremely important that alleged abusers are brought to justice. Had the reality show continue to run on air, Duggar’s alleged actions would have continued to go unpunished.
Thankfully, TLC has pulled re-runs of the episodes off the air, showing that the network does not condone sexual assault, especially against children. It would have been unacceptable for the show to continue. Thank President and CEO of Discovery Communications for making the right decision by showing solidarity for victims of child molestation everywhere.
Dear Mr. Zaslav,
Thank you for removing the show “Nineteen Kids and Counting” from the television network TLC after Josh Duggar admitted to alleged child molestation. I truly believe this is the best decision for your network and the viewers of the network who are loyal consumers.
While the Arkansas State Police were unable to pursue charges, I do not believe that Duggar should go unpunished for these alleged acts. By taking the show off the air, you are sending the message that TLC values justice for children more than profit. Additionally, it sends the message that the network takes sex crimes seriously. Thank you for not condoning Duggar’s alleged actions by allowing his family’s reality show to continue to air on your network.
If you had continued to air the show on the TLC, you would have been supporting this alleged child molester. For the sake of every child that has ever been a victim of sexual abuse and molestation, I thank you for pulling the reality show “Nineteen Kids and Counting” from the air. In a world that constantly values profit more than anything, I praise you for standing up for victims of sexual abuse around the world.
