Target: Jack Moore, Supervisor of Henrietta, New York
Goal: Force resignation of city supervisor who allegedly called black people “city cousins.”
Black people are “city cousins” who get “bussed out” to the city of Henrietta, New York, according to reported comments made by city supervisor Jack Moore. These most recent remarks are merely the latest in a long line of alleged bigotry committed by the supervisor. Demand that Moore resign from his post at once.
A complaint has been filed with the Henrietta Board of Ethics over disparaging comments about black people Moore reportedly made at a city meeting in April. According to the complaint, as Moore, a Republican, discussed the Affordable Care Act, he pointed out a black person in the crowd and referred to him as “city cousin” that the law was designed to pay for.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Moore has been the subject of an official complaint. An earlier one filed with the city alleges that Moore told a lesbian city employee that she looked like “a guy” and feigned driving towards her as if to run her over, only to swerve away at the last second and say “Oops. See I’m nice, I missed you.” A third reports that Moore allegedly called a disabled city employee a “fat tortoise,” as well as other cruel names intended to mock his disability.
Many are calling for Moore’s resignation, and even though Moore admits to making the alleged “city cousins” comment, he has stood firm and refused to step down. Sign the petition below to demand that Moore resign from his position as city supervisor at once.
Dear Supervisor Moore,
I am writing you today regarding your status with the city of Henrietta. Comments you admit to making, as well as other comments that people have claimed you made in the past, call into question your ability to effectively serve as the city’s supervisor.
I am, of course, referring to your alleged “city cousins” remark. Though I applaud you for taking ownership of what you said and admitting that you did something wrong, other complaints filed against you with the city’s Board of Ethics betray an apparent history of inappropriate comments and behavior against members of other marginalized groups.
These complaints, alleging that you mocked a disabled employee and tricked a lesbian employee into thinking that you were going to commit an act of violence against her, show that even if you don’t think you harbor any ill will towards these groups, you are far from capable of working with their members respectfully. No city should have to tolerate homophobia, ableism, and racism on the part of the members of its government.
Many have already called for you to step down in the aftermath of this most recent scandal. I demand that you bow to their requests and resign from your post as city supervisor of Henrietta at once.
