Target: Randy Brogdon, Chair of the Oklahoma Republican Party
Goal: Fire Republican official convicted of domestic assault and battery.
A recently-convicted domestic abuser, Thomas Clint Ryan, has been instated as the political director of the Oklahoma Republican Party. People who commit such disgusting crimes should not be permitted political power. Demand that the Oklahoma GOP’s leadership fire Ryan from their organization at once.
Controversy has erupted in the Oklahoma political scene after it was made public that Ryan, the Oklahoma Republican Party’s newly-appointed executive director, pleaded guilty to domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor and interference with an emergency telephone call in 2012. After public calls for his dismissal following this revelation, Randy Brogdon, the organization’s chair, demoted Ryan—who he called his “good friend”—to political director.
Despite Brogdon’s assertion that Ryan is an “example of how God’s grace and redeeming power can change lives,” the calls for the man’s total ouster have only grown louder. The state’s three female Republican state senators issued a statement calling for Ryan’s permanent resignation and emphasizing that the Republican Party needs to take a firm stance on domestic violence.
As of yet, though, Ryan has refused to step down on his own accord, and Brogdon has done nothing but defend him. That a mainstream political party would support a domestic abuser is unconscionable. Sign the petition below to demand that Chair Brogdon fire Ryan from his organization at once.
Dear Chair Brogdon,
I am writing you today regarding your political director Thomas Clint Ryan. To be frank, it is unbelievable that you and your party would support a person with such a recent criminal history of domestic abuse and battery.
It is decisions like this that show just how laughably out of touch the Republican Party is these days. One would think that a party constantly accused of waging a war on women would have the wherewithal to at least try to deny it, but clearly you lack the shame to do even that. Not content to just curtail women’s reproductive rights, make sure that they make less money than men, and maintain a system of patriarchal subjugation, you also want to keep a convicted domestic abuser on staff.
Thankfully, most of your state’s Republicans seem to be exercising their better judgment and are calling for the permanent dismissal of Ryan. You would do well to follow their lead if you want to look like anything other than a woefully-obtuse villain. I demand that you fire Ryan from the Oklahoma Republican Party management at once.
