Target: Matt Bevin, governor elect of Kentucky
Goal: Do not dismantle Kentucky’s successful healthcare exchange.
Kentucky is the second most successful state in the country when it comes to rise in health insurance coverage following the passage of the Affordable Care Act. Now Matt Bevin, governor elect of the state, has promised to do his best to dismantle the Kentucky’s insurance exchange, stripping health insurance from many of his constituents. Tell him that this unacceptable behavior simply will not stand.
Gallup reports that between 2013 and 2014, there was a 10 percent drop in uninsured adults following the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and expanded Medicaid coverage in Kentucky. For a state that frequently ranks in the top-five unhealthiest in the nation, access to healthcare is critical. For thousands in the state, the ACA has meant a huge burden lifted from their shoulders as affordable heath insurance finally becomes accessible.
Conservatives have been vocal opponents of the ACA from the beginning, but since its passage and implementation, we have watched their arguments against it be demolished one by one as state healthcare exchanges continue to climb toward success. However, this has not stopped Republicans from wasting our time and tax dollars in attempts to begrudgingly tear down the program.
Tea Party candidate Matt Bevin, and current governor elect of Kentucky, has the state’s healthcare exchange firmly in his sights. Bevin has been an outspoken opponent of the ACA since the beginning of his campaign. At a time when healthcare exchanges across the country are proving their worth, and as Kentucky insurance coverage percentages continue to rise, it would be a terrible shame to see one of the most successful ACA programs in the country shut down because of sour grapes politics.
We can not allow politicians to use their elected office to do things out of spite rather than the best interest of those who voted for them in the first place. Sign the petition below to tell Matt Bevin that his bully efforts to take away healthcare from the people of Kentucky are deplorable.
Dear Mr. Bevin,
Kentucky has seen climbing rates of adults covered by health insurance since the inception of the Affordable Care Act and expansion of Medicare. Despite the concerns of many before the program began, the ACA has met with resounding success across the country. Your state is certainly no exception, with the second-highest rise in insured adults in the entire nation.
As governor elect, surely you are aware that yours is one of the unhealthiest states in the country. Studies rank Kentucky among the top-five unhealthiest states. This is all the more reason to embrace a program that makes quality healthcare accessible to many without jeopardizing their financial stability.
Everyone deserves the ability to receive medical care. As governor, it will be your duty to act with the best interest of your constituents in mind. Dismantling the ACA and Medicare expansion in your state would go directly against this basic principle of leadership. Do the right thing: Do not let your politics get in the way of the best interest of the citizens of Kentucky, leave the Kentucky healthcare exchange intact.
