Target: Anheuser-Busch InBev CEO, Carlos Brito
Goal: Pull all Bud Light beer labeled with a tagline that promotes rape culture.
Bud Light Beer has recently unveiled its new tagline for its “Up For Whatever” campaign, featuring bottles labeled with the new slogan, “The perfect beer for removing “no” from your vocabulary for the night.” This slogan endorses rape culture while simultaneously stripping a human being from their right to say “no.” Demand that Anheuser-Busch remove this dangerous slogan from all Bud Light beers.
It is critical that we encourage society to unlearn rape culture. However, if consumers are constantly being inundated with products that disregard the importance of consent, this culture will continue to be prevalent in our society.
Selling these beers for the sake of profit does not excuse the condoning of rape and the removal of consent. While Bud Light has acknowledged that this slogan was a mistake, the company has not taken any action to remove the beers from store shelves. Demand that all beers with this tagline be pulled from stores nationwide by signing the petition below.
Dear Carlos Brito,
Your marketing campaign featuring Bud Light beer with the tagline “The perfect beer for removing “no” from your vocabulary for the night” sends the message to consumers that you do not value their right to say “no.” Sexual assault is not a tagline, it is not a slogan, it is not something that you should be used to make a profit, and it is most certainly not something that should be taken lightly. As CEO, you have failed your colleagues, your staff, and the family of your staff who have or will experience sexual assault in their lifetime.
In today’s society it is more important than ever to make it clear that consent is a necessary conversation to have between both parties. As a society we are feeling the effects of a culture that does not respect a person’s right to say “no.” From ever increasing reports of fraternities assaulting young women on college campuses to ads seen on the television during major sporting events to the 41 women who have accused Bill Cosby of allegedly sexually assaulting them, now is the time to put a stop to the momentum that has grown in celebrating non-consensual sexual acts.
Many young men and women do not feel safe at events where your beer is being consumed. As a company whose product has tremendous influence where sexual assault takes place, such as college campuses, you have an ethical responsibility to sell products that make it clear that Anheuser-Busch does not condone this type of behavior. This campaign is a setback in teaching society to embrace consent culture while disregarding the fact that consent is critical for the safety of all people. I demand that you pull all Bud Light beer featuring this tagline from store shelves nationally.
