Target: Animal Services Chief, Mark Stacks
Goal: Praise the arrest of men who allegedly ran a cockfighting operation.
Five men from Sterling, Virginia are facing felony accusations after a two-month long criminal investigation of an alleged cockfighting operation. The police have arrested four men, but are still searching for the last known suspect. The men are facing up to five years in prison and a fine of $2,000.
March 2015 marked the first time the Loudoun County Animal Services officers were called to investigate a property that had received a complaint that a horse was being mistreated. Although that complaint was dismissed, authorities discovered something else going on in the property. The officers noticed an unusually huge amount of roosters that appeared to be used for cockfighting. Official search warrants were performed at the property after the discovery. Investigators were able to seize evidence including substances and tools that they believe were intended to be used to enhance a rooster’s ability to fight and kill each other.
Cockfighting is an illegal gambling practice in which roosters are bred and drugged to battle one another in a fight to their deaths. The more aggressive the animal, the better it is for the breeders. The practice is cruel and illegal, so people who hold these fights can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Please sign this petition to praise the officers for discovering this illegal cockfighting operation and arresting the men suspected of being involved.
Dear Chief Mark Stacks,
Five men have allegedly been illegally running cockfighting operations that were accidently discovered by your officers. If it were not for that complaint, hundreds of roosters would continue to suffer at the hands of these cruel individuals. These animals are drugged and trained to fight until they are dead. It is sad that the animals are the ones that end up paying the ultimate price for these cruel gamblers who enjoy watching these competitions. Cockfighting is one of the lowest forms of animal cruelty and it should not be tolerated. The suspects should pay heavy fines and jail time for the pain that they caused these innocent animals.
Thank you and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s officers for investigating this property the moment the animals were discovered. If any more time would have went by, these men would have gotten away with their crimes. They exploited these animals and are now paying the price for it. Please continue your amazing work. You have saved so many at-risk animals from these cruel individuals.
