Target: Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg
Goal: Praise Facebook for expanding employee benefits to janitors, cooks, and support staff.
Facebook recently issued new guidelines that will dramatically increase the employee benefits of janitors, cooks, and other support staff. These new guidelines include a $15 minimum wage and at least 15 days of paid sick leave. Praise the company for expanding these important benefits to every employee.
Chief operations executive of Facebook, Sheryl Sandberg, announced that Facebook would also extend leave for more than 25 third-party contract employees who work on Facebook’s 16 other campuses behind the scenes. Contractors and vendors in the United States will have to adhere to the new guidelines, which also include a $4,000 new child benefit for parents without paid parental leave. Contract employees who work as janitors, cooks, security guards, and other support staff will receive these new benefits soon and Facebook will acquire the extra costs from their new guidelines until its contract companies can do so.
The new program will greatly help women, who make up the majority of minimum wage workers at Facebook. Other high up employees receive perks such as free meals, security, transportation, and personal grooming services, while minimum wage workers are often at the mercy of their contracting companies that only provide the absolute necessities.
Facebook is finally listening to the needs of its employees. Earlier this year, Facebook’s shuttle bus drivers unionized and protested for better pay and less grueling shifts. Other Silicon Valley retailers were fighting similar cases and it is great to hear that Facebook actually listened to the plight of its minimum wage workers and did something about it.
Please sign the petition below to thank Facebook for giving janitors, cooks, and other support staff the benefits they deserve.
Dear Mr. Zuckerberg,
I want to thank you for expanding employee benefits to behind-the-scenes support staff at Facebook such as janitors, cooks, and security guards. These employees work hard for little pay and it is nice to hear that they are being treated with respect.
Support staff workers are often treated poorly by contracting companies that only provide the bare essentials. Increasing the minimum wage to $15 and giving them paid sick leave, holidays, and vacation time will allow these employees to appreciate their jobs even more and create a more equal atmosphere at Facebook.
A large and successful company such as Facebook can absorb these costs until third-party contractors can adhere to the guidelines and it is appreciated that you would do this for your employees. Thank you for treating all of your employees with the respect and benefits they deserve.
