Target: The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom
Goal: Praise decision demanding a reduction in air pollution.
The U.K. must develop plans to reduce air pollution thanks to a recent Supreme Court ruling. The U.K. has failed to meet the European Union standards and has breached the limits for years. After repeated violations, NGO ClientEarth, an environmental organization, brought the case to the court to demand change.
London is one of the several British cities that failed to meet the standards on nitrogen dioxide levels since 2010. In light of these repeated violations, five judges unanimously ruled that the government must draw up plans to meet the European Union standards by the end of 2015. This will require that the U.K. government make bold measures to fall within the standards.
Air pollution kills tens of thousands of people every year in the U.K., and can also affect the quality of life of the public. The pollution can alter breathing abilities and cause various health issues such as asthma. According to the Public Health England, about 29,000 people die in the U.K. each year due to air pollution. They also predict that the number will rise if changes are not made.
The environment is being destroyed by pollution each day. People are suffering and dying due to the effects of air pollution. Please support this petition by praising the U.K. Supreme Court’s decision to demand a change for a better world.
Dear Supreme Court of the United Kingdom,
Air pollution in the U.K. kills tens of thousands of people each year. It also contributes to developing health issues such as asthma. These issues can be lessened and avoided by lowering the amount of air pollution.
The Court’s decision to order the U.K. government to meet the European Union standards is the next step in preserving the environment. Thank you for your consideration of the environment and the quality of life for all people. You have my full support in enforcing the standards for the U.K.
