Applaud Jail Sentence for Man who Beat Puppies to Death with a Brick

Target: Magistrate Robert Stone, Newcastle Local Court

Goal: Praise tough sentence against man who bludgeoned puppies to death in a drug-fueled rage.

A man responsible for beating and killing nine puppies with a brick has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. Nathan Thompson, who was entrusted by the owner to sell the puppies, drove the animals to the bush while high on methamphetamine and savagely beat them to death. Thompson claimed that he had considered taking the dogs to an animal shelter, but did not have money to pay for fuel for the trip.

The man pleaded guilty to nine counts of animal cruelty, one for each of the animals killed. He also pleaded guilty to one charge of prolonging the suffering of an animal for one of the two dogs that survived the attack. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail with a minimum of 12 months before the possibility of parole, and will be banned from owning animals in the future.

The attack shocked the Australian public and prompted protests outside the court. According to David O’Shannessy, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals New South Wales Chief Inspector, the case was particularly horrific even for veteran investigators. The court determined that Thompson’s attack showed premeditation and an “appalling lack of empathy.”

This sentence will bring justice to the puppies that were beaten and act as a deterrent to others that may commit crimes against animals in the future. The ban on animal ownership will ensure that Thompson does not commit similar crimes again. Sign the petition below to thank the judge for taking a tough stance on animal cruelty.

Dear Magistrate Robert Stone,

Nathan Thompson, who pleaded guilty to bludgeoning nine puppies with a brick, was recently sentenced to 18 months in prison. He was trusted by the puppies’ owner to sell them, but instead took them into the bush and beat them, leaving two of the dogs barely alive and suffering until a witness called the police. Thompson knew about humane options such as surrendering the dogs to the SPCA, but chose to kill them himself anyway.

By handing down a tough sentence to this offender, the court not only brought justice to the murdered puppies, but set an example which deters future crimes against animals. The ban on future animal ownership will ensure that no animal has to endure a similar attack at Thompson’s hands. We, the undersigned, thank you for punishing the perpetrator of this brutal and appalling beating.
