Target: Randall Herman of Skaldic Games
Goal: Cease creating and marketing anti-LGBT hate crime video games.
Players who “hate gays” are encouraged to “unleash [their] frustration with the ‘LGBT’ community” by violently shooting gay and transgender people in a video game called “Kill the F*ggot.” The maker of this game, Randall Herman, has promised to continue releasing increasingly violent and offensive games in the future. Demand that Herman cease his hateful projects at once.
Herman released “Kill the F*ggot” in an attempt to, he says, counter the “rampant political correctness” in the mainstream gaming community by releasing the “most overly offensive game possible to these idiots to prove a point.” In the game, the player is told to “Murder gays and transgenders [sic] while avoiding killing straight people” to get points before time runs out. When a gay character is murdered, text pops up at the top of the screen telling the player that a “f*ggot die [sic]” and an “AIDS carrier eliminated.”
Despite this blatantly offensive content, Herman insists that the game was not meant to encourage anti-LGBT violence, and says that people should “just wait for out next game” since it will be “way more offensive [than] this one.” Sign the petition below to demand that Herman immediately stop making and releasing deliberately hateful and violent video games.
Dear Mr. Herman,
I am writing you today regarding your game, “Kill the F*ggot.” Despite your contentions to the contrary, this game encourages violence against an already marginalized community that experiences vast amounts of violence. The future games you plan to release will no doubt do the same.
Regardless of your intentions with this video game, you must concede that it does not exist in a cultural vacuum. What may be to you and others in a specific subset of the gaming community a cutting satire and biting takedown of “political correctness run amok” in mainstream gaming, is to many others a blatantly homophobic and hateful piece of gaming technology.
Most alarmingly, this game can be seen as an endorsement of violence against gay and transgender people. It should be entirely self-evident that a video game that tells people to “unleash their frustration with the ‘LGBT’ community” by “murdering gays and transgenders [sic]” crosses a line. That you are planning to make deliberately even more offensive games in the future is alarming.
This video game amounts to nothing more than a mass murder simulator, and I am sure that given your stated motivations any future games you make and release will be just as bad, if not worse. I demand that you cease making these games immediately.
