Target: Humane Society International, Andrew Rowan
Goal: Support efforts to bring relief to animal victims after the earthquake in Nepal.
Nepal was recently hit with a magnitude 7.8 earthquake, leaving thousands of animal victims throughout the country. Humane Society International flew in with a team of veterinarians and disaster relief experts, equipped with medicine, vaccines, surgical equipment and other supplies, ready to treat and assist the animals.
The animal victims include family pets, as well as farm and stray animals, that have been injured, displaced, left behind or killed. These animals are now left without proper care, and could die from illness, starvation, or dehydration. In some places, the team found that animals have not been able to find any food after the earthquake, and that they also cannot find a place to sleep due to the wet ground and relentless rain.
For many families in Nepal, animals are all that they have left. Family pets provide emotional support, and farm animals are a source of income and can be critical to their survival. One woman was found with eight goats, and stated that she would not leave without them because they were all that she had left.
The team has been providing medicine and food for animals, shelter, and vaccinating animals to prevent any outbreaks. Amidst the tragedy, the team has found hope and joy in reuniting individuals with their animals, and nurturing them back to health. Please sign the petition below to support the efforts being done to bring relief to the animals in Nepal.
Dear President Andrew Rowan,
The magnitude 7.8 earthquake that recently hit Nepal not only devastated the people, but the animal community as well. The earthquake left thousands of animals homeless, hungry, thirsty, and injured. It also left countless people without their beloved pets, and critical farm animals.
However, with the efforts of Humane Society International, progress has been made in helping these animals. Your team has helped reunite animals with their owners, save the animals from illness, and provide food and shelter. Thank you for your service to the animals in Nepal, and you have my full support to continue in your mission to save these animals.
