Applaud Expansion of Wildlife Rehabilitation Center

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care

Target: Casey Beyer, Chair of the Governing Board of Tahoe Regional Planning Agency

Goal: Applaud the approval to relocate and expand a coveted and crucial wildlife rehabilitation facility.

Injured and suffering wildlife will no longer be turned away for medical care due to a progressive decision to expand a local wildlife care facility. The animal rehabilitation center has been helping wildlife for decades. Wild animals from birds to bears have received the care they need at this successful center. The facility has been run out of the owners’ small home property and they have had to deny animals in the past because of a lack of storage space. Luckily, the facility is finally approved to move to a 27-acre lot. Thousands of square feet will now be designated for wildlife care. Thank the planning agency for approving this necessary expansion.

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care has been operating as a non-profit since 1978. The rehab center cares for wild animals and releases them back in the wild once the animals are strong and healthy. Lake Tahoe, located at the border of California and Nevada, is home to a variety of wildlife such as red foxes, weasels, black bears, raccoons, deer, sheep, marmots, porcupines, squirrels, and beavers. The care center has made strides in rehabilitating bear cubs after forest fires. The owners, the Millhams, house the animals on their small home property and prepare food in their garage. As much as the Millhams would love to help every single suffering creature, their current facility cannot support the demand that arises during natural disasters such as forest fires and floods.

Luckily, the newly-approved facility will be 30 times bigger than their at-home care center. This allows the Millhams to triple the amount of animals they can house. By signing this petition, you are thanking the Governing Board of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency for approving expansion plans for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care.

Dear Chairman Beyer,

I want to thank you and the rest of the Governing Board for approving the relocation and expansion of Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care. The owners of this care facility have helped the wild animals of Lake Tahoe for decades. Their current facility is on their home property. This does not give them enough storage and work space to accept all suffering and injured creatures. Due to your decision, the wildlife care center will be able to care for three times as many animals.

Lake Tahoe is home to a variety of wildlife, from bears to marmots to birds to bats. When natural disasters hit, such as dangerous and deadly forest fires, our wildlife should have a safe haven. Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care is that safe haven. Thank you so much for caring for Lake Tahoe’s wild. I applaud you for this progressive and endearing decision to expand this remarkable wildlife rehabilitation center. I hope you continue to support and care for our precious wildlife.
