Demand: Ensure that six officers charged in Freddie Gray’s death receive fair punishment.
Baltimore, Maryland is finally calm after several days of protests over supposed police brutality when 25-year-old Freddie Gray died from spinal injuries he sustained while in police custody. The city’s mayor announced recently that the 4,000 National Guard soldiers brought in to keep the peace would be moving out of the city over the next week.
One of the contributing factors to the protests subsiding was that it was announced that Freddie Gray’s death is being considered murder, and six police officers have been charged. They’ve been accused of several crimes including murder and manslaughter after ignoring Freddie Gray’s pleas for medical attention while in police custody.
Dear Maryland State Attorney Marilyn Mosby,
It was recently announced that six police officers are being accused of ignoring Freddie Gray’s pleas for medical attention while in police custody. Police officers are not only responsible for upholding the law, they’re also responsible for keeping the public safe. Freddie Gray was certainly not kept safe by police.
We the undersigned urge you to ensure that the six officers charged do not receive special treatment and are given a fair punishment if they are found guilty.
