Target: April Dinwoodie, Chief Executive of the Donaldson Adoption Institute
Goal: Thank the Donaldson Adoption Institute for supporting the rights of LGBT individuals to marry and adopt.
The Donaldson Adoption Institute (DAI) spoke out in a recent blog post advocating for the rights of LGBT individuals to marry and adopt in America. Let’s thank them for speaking out and setting an example for the other adoption agencies in the country and around the world.
The post was titled “In Good Conscience.” In the post, DAI touches on numerous topics, like marriage equality and how denying marriages to same-sex couples actually hurts the chances for children to find good stable homes.
“In states that uphold same sex marriage bans, the harms to children are many, including health and safety, economic security, and psychological well being. These parents and their children are denied access to privileges and critical resources that support families and enhance stability for children. Marriage bans can also significantly limit children’s opportunities to join potentially willing, qualified and loving families,” wrote DAI.
DAI has done extensive research as to whether children can flourish in a gay household and the evidence is an overwhelming yes. They are not attempting to pass moral judgement. Instead, they look to science and research to determine what’s ultimately best for thousands of children in need.
“DAI has conducted research that demonstrates that children growing up in lesbian and gay headed households show similar patterns of adjustment as those raised by heterosexuals. These findings are in keeping with a quarter century of research that has found that children raised by lesbian and gay parents fare as well as those reared by heterosexual parents. ”
Sign this petition to thank DAI for its tolerance and understanding as the nation changes its outdated views on what it means to be a family.
Dear Ms. Dinwoodie,
Thank you for raising your voice in support of marriage equality and the right to adopt. The LGBT community appreciates your contributions in fighting unfounded hate and bigotry in the U.S. Your sound reasoning and call for justice are inspiring and will surely reach hearts and minds across the globe.
In many states, marriage bans and discriminatory bills are still a relevant issue. Keeping same-sex couples from marrying, as you say in your blog post “In Good Conscience,” limits the ability for these families to access resources and is damaging to the youth. Please continue to research and spread the word on your findings. Institutes like yours that listen to reason and sound research can change the world for the better.
There are many families and children that will benefit for your words of encouragement and your progressive views on adoption. Thank you for opening your mind and heart on what it means to be a family.
