Support Groups Rallying to Raise Awareness About Animal Abuse

Target: Rally Organizer, Travis Garner

Goal: Support groups for rallying to raise awareness about animal abuse.

A group of animal welfare organizations, law officials, animal shelter workers and supporters from across the state of South Carolina are planning on holding a rally on the Capitol grounds in May 2015. They are doing this to raise awareness of the horrific animal abuse occurring in the state daily and also want to change the fact that abusers often times go lightly punished or not punished at all.

Sadly, South Carolina is in the lowest tier of the ranking when it comes to enforcing animal protection laws. The ultimate goal of the rally is to make legislators aware of the weaknesses in the system that does not protect animals and changes need to be made. Supporters of stricter law enforcement believe that better laws will mean safer animals.

According to Greenville Online, in a 2014 report by the Animal Legal Defense Fund and Humane State Ranking, South Carolina ranked at the bottom. They were number 45 out of 50 states that have the worst laws protecting animals. More recent cases of dogfighting rings and puppy mills emphasize the need for better law enforcement in the state.

The rally will feature information on how to advocate for animal welfare by speaking out to South Carolina politicians and legislators. Please sign this petition to thank everybody who is involved for raising awareness to end animal abuse.

Dear Travis Garner,

It is incredible that a group filled with animal activists, workers, advocates, and supporters are all coming together at the State Capitol to fight for better animal laws. There have been far too many animals abused at the hands of careless people. Just in the last year, puppy mills, dogfighting rings, and cruel and unusual animal hoarding stories have all taken place and had to be shut down.

No animal deserves to live a life of fear and neglect. If adequate animal protection laws were actually enforced, these numbers could greatly reduce. Animals should only be in the care of people who want them, not given to a run-down puppy mill or secretly being starved in a home.

Thank you and all of the animal activists that are coming together to bring awareness to this awful epidemic. The animals of South Carolina need all of the help they can get.
