Target: Chris Van Beek, President of Deepwater Wind

Goal: Applaud efforts to implement the first ever offshore wind farm in the U.S.

The U.S. has taken a major step forward in renewable energy with the first ever offshore wind farm off the cost of Rhode Island. Deepwater Wind, an American offshore wind developer company, is responsible for helping implement this wind farm project, titled the “Block Island” project.

Over the decades, increasingly more efforts have been put into researching and implementing renewable energy sources in the United States. Especially with the increasing destructive effects of global warming and the diminishing natural resources, these efforts have become more urgent and prioritized. As this previous petition outlines, the push for offshore wind farming in the United States has been an ongoing debate for quite some time. The offshore wind farm, which is finally being implemented in the U.S., serves as a testament to this forward direction researchers and scientists are taking in renewable energy.

Deepwater Wind is said to have secured more than $290 million to finance the “Block Island” project, and the farm is planned to be fully functioning by the end of the year 2016. Block Island will be able to generate enough power to 17,000 homes, and will cut energy bills in the area to half the regular cost. The work put into this project will also help generate numerous jobs for residents. The project holds great potential to start renewable energy wind farm initiatives all across the nation.

By signing the petition below, you are applauding and showing support for the many individuals who are involved with the offshore wind farm establishment plan. Such establishments are crucial for working toward more renewable energy sources on Earth.

Dear Chris Van Beek,

It was quite heartening to read about the first ever offshore wind farm underway off the coast of Rhode Island. Efforts toward researching and implementing sources of renewable energy are becoming increasingly crucial, and this new establishment sheds light on the advancements that have occurred through the years in the U.S.

Thank you for showing that a positive difference can be made at the local level, through the work you are doing with Deepwater Wind. Your work not only helps implement renewable energy sources and boosts the economy in Rhode Island, but also serves as a inspiration for other companies and environmental groups. I look forward to hearing about more advancements that occur through this project and from other renewable energy groups.
