Target: Protesters in Ferguson, Missouri
Demand: Stop rioting and don’t follow in the footsteps of Baltimore.
The recent protests-turned-riots in Baltimore over the death of Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old who died after suffering a spine injury while in police custody, have sparked outrage, dismay, and much controversy. Dozens of arrests have been made, people, including police, have been injured, and several properties have been damaged.
Though many people are outraged at this behavior, several protests in support of Baltimore have begun or are scheduled. One of which began recently in Ferguson, Missouri which saw its own protests after the death of Michael Brown.
Protesters have been seen lighting objects on fire and at least two people have been shot. Reports indicate that police are being prevented from investigating the shootings because protesters are throwing rocks at them.
Dear protesters in Ferguson, Missouri,
Your recent protest in support of those in Baltimore, Maryland may have begun with the best of intentions. However, now things seem to have gotten out of control. Members of your community are being injured and police are being prevented from doing their job.
In Baltimore, dozens of properties were destroyed that were owned by innocent people. Tax dollars will have to be spent to replace police cars that were destroyed.
We the undersigned urge you to protest in a peaceful way and end the violence.
