Target: Dr. Mehmet Oz, Author and Television Personality
Goal: Step down from faculty position and stop selling false cures on television.
Dr. Oz has recently been cited as a fraud by a group of over 1,000 doctors who are demanding that he resign from his position at Columbia University. The charges made by these doctors are that Oz knowingly misleads viewers of his television program and sells them get-well-quick remedies that make him money and don’t actually work. This man is enriching himself by deceiving sick people who are looking for help and should not be allowed to call himself a doctor.
The U.S. Senate Consumer Protection Panel held a hearing specifically targeting Oz and the false products that he pedals. He was forced to sit before the panel and answer questions about the products and why he endorses them. During that very hearing, Oz admitted that most of his products don’t make any observable difference, essentially proving him to be a fraud.
Furthermore, when the aforementioned doctors charged him as such, Oz came out on his television show claiming that he has every right to sell this snake oil for his own gain because he has freedom of speech. While Oz is free to say anything he pleases, if he is harming and swindling people, he should not be allowed a faculty position at a well-respected university.
This phony cannot be allowed to con any more sick, needy people out of their hard-earned money. Please sign here to demand that Dr. Oz step down from his position at Columbia and cease selling placebos to people immediately.
Dear Dr. Oz,
I understand that you are at the heart of some recent controversy regarding the authenticity of the claims made on your show. You routinely claim to have miracle cures for all types of ailments, yet when questioned by Congress about them, you admitted that most of them have no observable effects. Why then would you be trying to sell these things to poor, sick people? Profit of course. It’s always about the money.
I am writing to inform you that I stand with the thousand doctors calling for you to step down from your position at Columbia. I understand that are in fact a real doctor, yet you are knowingly swindling people and should not be allowed to call yourself one. You are not exercising your freedom of speech on your show, you’re misleading people and profiting on their false hopes and dreams.
I demand that you cease this charade and retire not only from Columbia, but also from your daytime television program. You are not helping anyone, Dr. Oz, and you are breaking the oath you took when became a doctor.
