Target: Novorossiysk, Russia authorities
Demand: Release three woman who were arrested for dancing near a WWII memorial.
Three Russian women were arrested recently for dancing near a WWII memorial in Novorossiysk, Russia. According to sources, the women were twerking during a dance which they filmed for a music video. The song they were dancing to is “Touch You Tonight” by Aidonia. The three women, ages 18, 24, and 26 were all given jail sentences for about a week and a half.
While most would agree it is disrespectful to twerk in front of a war memorial, jailing the women seems a bit excessive. Time in prison could be a very traumatic experience and doing a dance does not warrant it.
Dear Novorossiysk authorities,
We recently learned of Margarita Radetskaya, Yana Kutakova, and Yekaterina Scherbedinskaya, who were jailed for dancing in a sexual manner in front of a war memorial. While we agree that their actions were disrespectful, we feel that the punishment they received was too excessive for their crime. Time in prison can be a traumatic experience and we do not feel their offenses warrant it.
We the undersigned urge you to release the three women from jail and instead issue a fine to pay back for what they did.
