Dear President Hussain,
The death of Sabeen Mahmud is a terrible tragedy for the country of Pakistan and the world, as a she was a peaceful voice in the call for knowledge and truth. Do not let her death be an unsolved case. Investigate her shooting with not only the force of the authorities, but with backing from the government as well.
Mahmud was killed in a targeted attempt to silence her strong voice. She often encouraged discussions about topics often considered taboo, such as human rights mass disappearances. Even the police showed disdain at her practices. But Mahmud expressed her right to be an individual with her own thoughts and feelings and definitely did not deserve to die.
What happens now will be a marker for your country. Will you stand up and take care of your citizens, or will you allow her death to go uninvestigated, further strengthening the idea that extremists can kill their opponents without fear of prosecution? For the sake of your citizens and the family of Mahmud, I urge you to make certain that a full investigation is made.
