Target: Former Senator Rick Santorum and Governor Bobby Jindal
Goal: Don’t join anti-LGBT hate group on trip to Israel.
Likely Republican presidential hopefuls Rick Santorum and Bobby Jindal are scheduled to join members of the noted hate group the Family Research Council (FRC) as special guests on an international trip the organization in sponsoring. The FRC has a long history of anti-LGBT propaganda and smear campaigns, and as such politicians who hope to be President should not associate with it. Demand that Jindal and Santorum cancel their plans to be a part of this trip.
With the stated purpose being to “explore the land of the Bible and the roots of our Christian faith,” the FRC has planned to host an 11-day evangelical trip to Israel later this year for conservative politicians and laymen alike. Santorum and Jindal have already signed on as “special guests,” and will join the group as they tour notable biblical sites and meet with Israeli politicians over the course of the trip.
The FRC, however, is widely considered to be a virulently anti-gay hate group. Its leader, Tony Perkins, who will be joining Jindal and Santorum on the tour, has come under fire time and time again for his radical rightwing views, including praising Uganda’s “Kill the Gays” bill, blaming gay people for pedophilia, and accusing the “It Gets Better” movement of trying to recruit children to be gay.
Clearly the FRC is too beyond the pale to be considered legitimate by any serious politician. Sign the petition below to demand that Rick Santorum and Bobby Jindal cancel their plans to join it on this trip it is hosting.
Dear Former Senator Santorum and Governor Jindal,
I am writing you today regarding your plans to join Tony Perkins and his Family Research Council in their “Holy Land Tour” later this year. Perkins is a homophobic extremist and the FRC is a hate group, and you should not be associating with them if you have dreams of the White House.
The FRC has been one of our country’s most outspokenly homophobic organizations in recent memory. It smears LGBT activists, actively propagandizes against gay people, and considers gay relationships to be the same as relationships between humans and animals. Its leader Tony Perkins has repeatedly compared gay people to terrorists and accused them of wanting to put Christian Americans in concentration camps and kill them all. This organization and its leadership are too far beyond what is acceptable American political discourse to be considered reasonable, responsible associates of likely presidential candidates like yourselves.
Posturing to garner support from your base in anticipation of an intense Republican primary before 2016 is no excuse for galavanting with rampantly and unapologetically hateful people. I demand that you cancel your scheduled appearances with the FRC’s Holy Land Tour at once.
