Target: Mrs. Nancy Fishman, School Board President of Carlisle Area School District
Goal: Fire school nurse accused of refusing to treat a student because she wouldn’t stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.
A school nurse allegedly refused to treat a student in a Pennsylvania middle school because the student did not stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. The nurse then would not allow her to call her parents for help and demanded that she be allowed to have “a long conversation” with the student. This type of behavior is indefensible and nothing short of blind, overzealous nationalism. Students have the right to not stand if they do not wish to and this nurse must be terminated immediately for allegedly infringing on those rights.
Overzealous patriotism, or false patriotism, has been a growing issue in the United States for the last few decades. If someone so much as disagrees with the concept of American Exceptionalism, they are shouted down by an ever- growing pack of traditional conservatives and neo-conservatives. These people believe that criticizing the government, unless that government is run by Democrats of course, is akin to treason.
It is an absolute travesty that this kind of ideological strong-arming is happening in a public school, let alone to a child who was merely seeking medical care from the school nurse. This type of agree or die fundamentalism is dangerous and nothing short of the nationalism required by well-known historical dictatorships.
This woman does not deserve to be working in a public school. She is more than welcome to work in a private school that is more in line with her beliefs, but I sincerely hope that she does not. Her ideological bullying of a teenager is disgusting and a perfect example of the political nastiness that the majority of people in the U.S. want to leave behind. Please sign here to demand that this woman be terminated by the school district before she can harm any more children.
Dear Mrs. Fishman,
It has come to my attention that a nurse at Wilson Middle School allegedly refused to treat a student because she did not want to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. I do not know what your political leanings are, but I think it is safe to assume we agree that bullying a teenager is not acceptable conduct for any school employee. I understand that the Pledge is important to some people, but dissent is important too. It’s just another way of showing that one cares enough about something to change it.
I am writing to urge you to take action against this nurse before she is able to do any more harm to the children
of Wilson Middle School. This type of ideological strong-arming would not be acceptable in any circumstance, let alone in the office of someone who is meant to help sick students. Political bullying has no place in our society, never mind in a public school. Please act to terminate this nurse immediately so that all students feel free to express themselves.
