Target: Karli Kloss, Sponsor of “Kode with Karlie”
Goal: Praise supermodel for her efforts to encourage girls to learn coding.
Girls are being inspired to learn coding despite it being a male-dominated field, thanks to supermodel Karlie Kloss. Kloss is partnering with the Flatiron School and will give 20 girls across the country free tuition to the Flatiron Pre-College Academy’s Introduction to Software Engineering course.
Karlie Kloss has been vocal about how crucial it is for young girls to break into the male-dominated field. She has said, “I think it’s crucial that young women learn to code as early as possible to ensure that we have a voice and a stake in what the world looks like.” Kloss approached Flatiron about partnering with them after she took a few courses herself. She is not only passionate about allowing women to use this knowledge for careers, but as a way of expressing their creativity with technology.
The fact that Karlie Kloss is the one to be sponsoring these scholarships is great for numerous reasons. As a supermodel, Kloss is able to reach an audience of girls who otherwise might not have thought of coding as a career choice. In addition, Kloss breaks stereotypes of female programmers and makes it more accessible to everyone. More coding classes need to be inserted into public schools so that we give students an opportunity to learn basic coding.
By teaming up with Flatiron Academy and encouraging girls to code, Karlie Kloss is using her fame for good and is inspiring others to learn a valuable tool. Please sign the petition below to thank her for her efforts.
Dear Karlie Kloss,
I would like to thank you for partnering with Flatiron Academy and sponsoring scholarships for girls to learn the basics of coding. This area of technology needs more women and your partnership with Flatiron will encourage young women to enter this field.
Coding is a valuable tool that should be offered in public schools, but sadly, many schools do not. I am pleased to learn that you personally took courses from Flatiron Academy and that you were inspired enough to partner with them and create these opportunities for girls. Using your status to motivate others to learn is admirable and I hope that you continue to use it in other ways that benefit young women.
Thank you, Ms. Kloss, for being a role model for young women everywhere and continuing to inspire girls around the world.
