Stop Selling Live Animals on Ebay

Puppy Sold on Ebay Classifieds

Target: John Donahoe, CEO of Ebay

Goal: Do not promote animal abuse by allowing live animals to be sold Ebay affiliated website.

Pets are sold every day on Ebay Classifieds despite the company’s main website stating this is not allowed. More animals will most certainly be abused if the company continues to not follow their own rules.

Ebay forbids people from selling live animals on their website. However, a few years after they opened, the company found a loophole and allowed animals to be sold through their second website, Ebay Classifieds. Because sellers are not required to register, they are difficult to track. This makes it easier for people to do things like ship animals overseas to countries that do not have strict animal cruelty laws.

Unregistered users also make it difficult to regulate sales, increasing the likelihood that animals will end up in the wrong hands. For example, it is perfectly OK to sell American bulldogs on Ebay Classifieds, making it a definite possibility that these dogs will end up in the hands of heinous dog fighters.

Sign this petition and demand Ebay stop inventing outlets to break their own rules for the hidden purpose of collecting substantial profits. Who knows how many animals have already died horrible deaths because Ebay executives are more worried about making money than they are about protecting defenseless animals.

Dear Mr. Donahoe,

By allowing people to sell animals through Ebay Classifieds, you are skating around your original policies that forbid animals from being sold on Ebay. More animals will likely be abused if these rules continue to be ignored.

Since dogs sold to individuals through Ebay Classifieds are not required to be regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), breeders and puppy mills are easily able to breed animals for the purpose of selling them at higher prices. Many animals—in turn—end up living in crammed and unfit environments before eventually being sold through websites like Ebay Classifieds.

In addition, animals can easily be bought by abusive owners because it is impossible to track unregulated sales. Buyers are not required to submit proof that states they have never been arrested for animal cruelty issues, which makes it easier for people to get away with things like selling small pets as bait animals.

Allowing people to sell animals on another website that you are affiliated with is clearly a corrupt strategy to circumvent your own policies. If you continue to act in such a deviant manner, many people will soon no longer conduct business through your websites.

For all of these reasons I urge you to quit allowing animals to be sold through Ebay Classifieds, as it is not worth risking them being needlessly abused. Furthermore, Ebay needs to follow the procedures that they implement without stealthily inventing shady loopholes.
