Target: Kankakee County State Attorney Jamie Boyd
Goal: Conduct a full investigation and seek the harshest punishment for 80 counts of alleged animal negligence.
More than 80 dogs were found in inhumane conditions in the basement of an Illinois home/puppy mill. The dogs, most of which were small breeds like Chihuahuas, Shih Tzus, Yorkshire Terriers, and Poodles, were found cramped in small wire cages with little light, poor sanitation and ventilation. The owner of the puppy mill, if found guilty, should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Imagine being kept under lock and key in a dark, dank basement in a tiny, overcrowded cage. That was the situation that animal control claimed to have found when they rescued more than 80 small dogs from the Kankakee home.
The Puppy Mill Project is an advocacy group that educates the public on the culture surrounding puppy mills and spreads awareness on the cruelty that can occur within them. According to their organization, the accused had run the puppy mill for years and they had received many complaints about the mill from people in the community. The Puppy Mill Project worked in conjunction with Animal Control, Animal Rescue Corps and the Kankakee County state’s attorney’s officials to make sure the animals were removed from harm. The animals have been taken from the residence and are now being cleaned, fed and cared for in preparation for adoption.
Dogs are not simple merchandise, they are living beings with thoughts, needs and emotions. Those who run inhumane puppy mills need to be held accountable for whatever atrocities they have caused. Sign this petition for a full investigation and maximum punishment for those found guilty.
Dear Kankakee County State Attorney Jamie Boyd,
The puppy mill found in inhumane conditions is both devastating and heartbreaking. For more than 80 animals to be subjected to that kind of treatment is intolerable. This matter needs to be investigated fully and the person or persons held responsible need to be charged to the maximum extent that the law will allow.
Animal cruelty is a serious issue and leniency in this case will definitely send the wrong message. People who do not treat animals with the decency they deserve have no right calling themselves animal caregivers.
Justice needs to be served for all of these voiceless dogs. Conduct a full and thorough investigation and seek the maximum penalty for all the guilty parties involved.
