Target: United States Department of Agriculture Head Tom Vilsack
Goal: Shut down a monkey testing lab that is accused of brutalizing, torturing, and mercilessly killing its animals.
Primate Products, a Hendry County, Florida monkey lab, has been allegedly performing disturbing and cruel procedures on its captive animals. The most recent accusation of this comes from a former vet technician for the company. He claimed that his job at the lab included performing C-section abortions on late-term female macaques. Following the operation, Primate Products would then dissect the organs of the underdeveloped fetuses, freeze them, and sell them to various pharmaceutical companies. The lab would also collect the milk of the mothers to sell.
In 2011, Primate Products conducted 234 tests on its monkeys. Two-hundred and thirteen of those tests were allegedly performed without proper sedation, forcing the animals to endure intolerable amounts of excruciating pain. In a site inspection carried out by the United States Department of Agriculture, the company was found to have a rodent infestation and structural issues. Additionally, unclean pools of waste water were reported to have been discovered beneath the monkeys’ cages.
Primate Products could face potential legal issues, as the land surrounding the laboratory is zoned for agriculture, and macaques are not agricultural animals. Furthermore, the numerous operations the company has performed on its animals have managed to escape scrutiny from local officials. Despite the fact that the company is already home to a disturbingly staggering 1,700 monkeys, Primate Products also leased part of its land to a second animal-testing facility named BioCulture.
The animals being forced to live at this laboratory are allegedly subjected to neglect, torture, injury, and death. Please sign the petition to the USDA below to help end the horrific treatment of these defenseless monkeys, and help to shut down the abusive Primate Products lab.
Dear Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack,
Primate Products, a Florida monkey lab, allegedly subjects its macaques to poor living conditions and improperly carried out procedures. Apparently, the animals are irregularly sedated prior to operations, the site in which they are housed in is unclean, and the monkeys are subjected to needless torture, such as late-term abortions, according to accusations.
The company’s horrific treatment of its animals has managed to evade scrutiny from officials, while the brutalized macaques continue to endure unimaginable levels of torment. We, the undersigned, urge you to perform further investigations into the Primate Products’ facilities. Please do not let the apparently horrendous treatment of these defenseless animals continue.
