Don’t Let Islamophobic Fascist Speak to Congress

Target: Representative Steve King

Goal: Disinvite prominent Dutch Islamophobe from speaking to Congress.

The Dutch fascist and anti-Muslim politician Geert Wilders is going to be speaking with a group of conservative congressmen soon at the invitation of Representative Steve King. Our nation’s politicians should not be affiliating themselves with such extremists. Demand that Representative King revoke Wilders’ invitation to speak to him and other members of Congress.

Geert Wilders has made a name for himself around the world for his virulently Islamophobic and racist attitudes and various efforts he has made against Muslims in his native Netherlands from his position in the country’s parliament. He has gone on record comparing the Qur’an with Hitler’s Mein Kampf and calling Islam’s prophet “the Devil,” and has campaigned to ban the Qur’an, the building of mosques, and Muslim veils in his country.

Many have identified Wilders, and his Party for Freedom, as being at the forefront in a new wave of European fascism and white nationalism. Apparently that does not bother Representative King, who invited Wilders to speak to him and other members of Congress’ Conservative Opportunity Society later this month.

This man has already been in the United States on multiple occasions to speak at conservative conferences and warn Americans of the “dangers of Islam.” It is profoundly alarming that he is now being invited into our country’s halls of power. Sign the petition below to demand that Representative King rescind his invitation to Wilders so that he cannot preach his hate to our leaders.

Dear Representative King,

I am writing you today regarding your invitation to Geert Wilders to come speak to you and other lawmakers in Congress later this month. This man is a dangerous extremist and should not be allowed access to you or any other of our country’s leaders.

Hopefully you were unaware of this man’s reputation when you first extended your invitation to him. He is known around the world for his racist, anti-Muslim attitudes—indeed, they are so extreme that many of the views of even the most xenophobic, bigoted far-right American politicians pale in comparison. He is viewed by many as a fascist, has compared Islam to Nazism, and has railed against the right of Muslims in the Netherlands to practice their religion. He was a motivating force in Anders Breivik’s 2011 terrorist attack that left 77 people dead.

Wilders has been trying to export his particularly dangerous brand of Islamophobia to the United States for years. He has found many supporters already in the racists and conspiracy theorists of the American far-right fringe—you should not add congressmen to that list. I demand that you revoke your invitation to him to speak to you and other lawmakers at once.

  1. He is free to speak. So now we are not even supposed to verbally defend ourselves against Islamic terrorists? BS!!!!

  2. Geert Willders is neither an islamophobe, extremist, nor a racist! He speaks the truth regarding what is happening in Europe and the Netherlands, in particular, and the goal of extremist muslims to islamize Europe and the world. For speaking the truth about islam, Mr. Wilders has to be under armed guard protection 24/7. Rodney McMasters whoever you are you are a front for islamists who do not believe in the value of free speech for everyone, even for someone you disagree with. It is the islamists that want to curtail the human rights of all people.
If Rep Steve King is Rep Steve King of New York, it is about time he did something right for a change.
