Success: IKEA Adds Vegan Meatballs to Menu

Target: Peter Agnefjäll, CEO of IKEA

Goal: Praise the addition of vegan meatballs to IKEA’s menu.

In a truly progressive move, furniture giant IKEA has added vegan meatballs to its popular in-store menu. This wonderful change comes after several years of campaigning by activists from all over, including those on ForceChange who submitted and signed this petition. The furniture giant, which has over 40 locations in the United States alone, is now a more inclusive place that will cater to the dietary needs of all of its patrons. It must be commended for listening to the voices of their customers and making such a positive change.

To those unfamiliar with IKEA stores, suffice it to say that they are absolutely massive. Customers can, and often do, spend entire days inside browsing an impossibly large catalog of items and need access to food while they are inside; that’s where IKEA’s restaurants come into the picture. The restaurants inside IKEA stores serve over 50 million customers a year in the United States alone and by adding animal-free meatballs, meatballs being their most popular menu item, they will effectively cut down the number of animal meatballs they sell.

This announcement also comes on the heels of a government panel suggesting that a vegan diet is the least harmful to the planet. The managing director of IKEA’s food wing had this to say of the announcement, “We will continue to serve delicious food, but with increasing focus on the aspects of food that are really important to people: health and sustainability.” It is truly wonderful to see such a conscientious company doing its part to cut down on the amount of meat people eat and to make their shopping experience more inclusive. Please sign here to commend IKEA for its present and future attempts to make the world a better place.

Dear Mr. Agnefjäll,

I am writing to thank you and your company for introducing a completely vegan variant of your famous, and delicious, meatballs. Your stores sell almost 100 million meatballs per year in the United States alone and adding a vegan option will go a long way to cutting down on the amount of meat that people eat.

It will also make your stores a more inclusive and friendly place for all people to shop. As you well know, vegan products are wonderful as they can be eaten by vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores. Your announcement also comes on the heels of a government announcement that a vegan diet is the least damaging to the earth.

In one swoop you have made your stores more progressive, inclusive, and earth-friendly. Truly this is a great day and I wish to thank you once more. Please continue to make decisions that are in the best interest of your customers and the planet.

  1. SO good to know when we’re schlepping around cavernous IKEA looking for goods, now we can actually eat something before we pass out, lol! GREAT move, IKEA. Makes me even happier about your store. (also told a vegan friend in Europe about your new food inclusion and she was very pleased, too)

  2. Wonderful news!

Thank you for adding vegan meatballs to your menu. It makes it a bit easier on me to choose a meat alternative and frankly, it’s easier on the planet!
