Praise Veto of Animal Cruelty Bill

Target: Arizona Governor Doug Ducey

Goal: Praise veto of bill that would have given animals fewer legal protections.

A bill that would have lifted protections against the mistreatment of farm animals has been vetoed by Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. According to a report from KPHO Phoenix, Governor Ducey issued a statement saying, “We must ensure that all animals are protected, and mindful that increasing protections for one class of animals does not inadvertently undercut protections for another.”

This is a victory for animal rights advocates, who argue that the bill is a sneaky attempt to hack away at the rights of farm animals, under an animal-friendly guise. This bill, known as HB 2150, has sparked public outcry from citizens across the country. Some say that it would complicate undercover investigations on farms that abuse their animals. Many people want to give solid rights to companion animals, but leave out animals that are raised for food or other agricultural purposes. However, these people don’t realize that many of these animals have cognitive abilities that are similar to that of companion animals.

As a society, we need to grant farm animals the same rights as companion animals, because there is a chance that they are just as conscious as cats and dogs. Unfortunately, many of these animals live under filthy and terrifying conditions. Sign this petition to thank Arizona Governor Doug Ducey for standing up for the rights of these animals.

Dear Mr. Ducey,

I want to thank you for vetoing HB 2150, which would have stripped away the rights of farm animals. As I’m sure you’re aware, many farm animals live under horrific conditions, and they need all the help they can get. Furthermore, many of these animals have high-level cognitive abilities. Pigs, for instance, are said to be able to empathize with their companions.

I appreciate the fact that you were able to see through this bill. On the face of it, it seemed animal friendly, but it could very well have been a sneaky attempt to remove the rights of farm animals. As you know, legislation is being passed in many parts of the United States that detracts from the rights of farm animals, and sentences them to live terrible lives of abuse and neglect. Citizens across this country have spoken out against the bill, and I want to express my gratitude to you for listening to them. More of our leaders should be standing up for the rights of animals. It’s an issue that citizens are becoming increasingly interested in, and every politician would be smart to support it.
