Target: Franche-Comté, France Police Officers
Goal: Thank officers for rescuing rat cruelly trapped in box by artist.
There was much protest after the German artist Florian Mehnert told Internet users they had the right to tell him when to shoot an innocent rat trapped in a box. Thankfully, due in part to the dedication of ForceChange activists, the rat has been removed from the artist’s studio and it is now safe.
To show his aversion to drone strikes, Mehnert decided to throw a rat in a box, aim a gun at its head and tell animal abusers who visited his website that it was their choice as to when this innocent animal would die. Animal lovers everywhere were outraged at the news. Letters were sent to everyone from animal rights organizations to French policemen and even to high-up government officials.
In the end, French policemen took notice and made the very humane choice to rescue the animal. Upon arrival they learned that the gun was a paintball gun. However, using a paintball gun on a small animal is no less serious than using a real gun, as the rat would have been extremely hurt had the shot not killed him. Fortunately, the furry little guy is now safely running around in his new home without a horrifying gun barrel staring him in the face.
Sign this petition to thank the police officers in Franche-Comté, France for having the heart to rescue this animal, and to also thank all the animal lovers who took the time to help fight against this artist’s very inhumane intentions. While saving this rat may only be a small step forward, it is surely a victory for animal lovers everywhere.
Dear Franche-Comté Police Officers,
On behalf of the animal rights community, we would like to thank you for rescuing a rat from a cruel artist who thought it was OK to place the animal in a box and point a gun at its head. As you likely know, animal lovers and officials were notified of the artist’s very disgusting and horrifying plans after the artist set up posts saying that anyone online would have the right to tell him when the rat should be shot on or after Mar. 24, 2015.
Because you swiftly took action and rehomed the animal in a reputable shelter, the rat is now safe. Please know the animal rights community is extremely grateful that you did not allow such mean-spirited nonsense to take place. Thank you to everyone as well who took the time to speak out and fight against this extremely heinous animal abuse. While it may only be a small step closer to where we want to be, it is still very much a win for all animal lovers around the world.
