Help Teachers Empower High-Ability Learners

Target: U.S. Senate Leader Mitch McConnell

Goal: Pass bill that provides aid to gifted students.

Congress is trying to provide teachers with the necessary resources to aid students with exceptional skills. It can be very frustrating to gifted students when they are forced into a one-size-fits-all program where they are made to complete work that is not challenging to them at all. Not only is this a disservice to the student, but it’s also a disservice to society, since many of these kids have the potential to go on to make groundbreaking achievements.

It is common knowledge that the U.S. lags far behind other countries in education, and this failure to help gifted students is a big part of the problem. Far too many gifted students in the United States are not being given the proper support because the issue is simply not being taken seriously by lawmakers. Education in the United States is in dire need of an improvement, and this bill could help.

By extending a helping hand to students who stand out from the crowd, we will be helping to nourish the best and the brightest. Although the current system is failing these kids, we can help set them on a path to success by giving teachers the proper resources to feed their minds. Please sign this petition to encourage Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell to let this bill pass.

Dear Mr. McConnell,

There is currently a bill before the Senate that would help provide teachers with the resources they need to help students with special skills. I believe that this bill has the potential to help boost education in this country. As I’m sure you’re aware, education in the United States is sub-standard. Countries such as China and India are miles ahead of us. However, if we act swiftly, the problem can be rectified.

As an example of talent in our schools, a boy named Jack Andraka invented an effective test for pancreatic cancer at the age of fifteen. Many of us have also heard about Jacob Barnett, who can understand some of the most abstract concepts in theoretical physics. Kids like these need our help. If we work to invest in our future and raise up those students who are exceptional, we will be able to cultivate a better educational system.

As you know, there are many challenges that we will have to face in the coming decades, from disease and natural disasters to war and nuclear proliferation. I for one have complete faith in this coming generation of American citizens. Please support this bill and uplift talented kids.
