Target: Oklahoma County District Attorney, David W. Prater

Goal: Allow LGBT ally to display support on license plate.

A man’s request to display “LGBTALY” on his license plate was recently denied by the state of Oklahoma. Though the request can be interpreted as political, it should be allowed on the grounds that it promotes acceptance and does not attempt to exclude any group of individuals. Ask Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater to overturn this ruling and allow a license plate displaying support of the LGBT community.

Dr. John Patrick Keefe is a married father of two who simply wishes to display his support of the LGBT community in a manner sure to reach a large audience. He has expressed his desire to positively impact fellow citizens with his message of acceptance.

Understandably, the state must adhere to a strict set of rules regarding the use of certain language on license plates. This; however, is not a reasonable case for rejection. The license plate does not exclude any group of individuals or preach any kind of hate or negativity. A display of acceptance and positivity meant to unite society should be displayed often and with pride.

By denying a request to use a license plate as a platform for support, the state essentially limits freedom of speech. Our ability to promote a society in which individuals fight for the basic rights of one another is effectively weakened. This is unacceptable. Please sign this petition to urge District Attorney David Prater to overturn this decision and take a stand for our freedom of speech.

Dear District Attorney David Prater,

The recent case in which the state of Oklahoma denied a resident’s request to display “LGBTALY” on his license plate is not within the realm of reason. This is a blatant act of censorship that denies a father of his right to proudly display a positive message. Please overturn this decision and allow this man to express his support for the LGBT community.

Given the nature of expressing support for fellow citizens, rejection was not the proper response. A message of love and support absolutely has a place on a license plate. Oklahoma residents will frequently be reminded that despite our differences, we must support one another and act as one. This message is especially important in today’s society.

Please do everything in your power to overturn Oklahoma’s recent decision and vow to take a stand for a message that will have widespread positivity.
