Target: Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper
Goal: Increase availability and training of immediate services for sexual assault victims.
Victims of sexual assault on Colorado college campuses may soon receive the proper immediate care. Currently, rape kits, or Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner services are only available for one of the many college campuses in the state. Given the astonishingly high rates of sexual assault on college campuses across the nation, this practice is inefficient and unacceptable. Urge Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper to introduce widespread and immediate services for victims of sexual assault on college campuses.
Many sexual assault cases are significantly difficult to prove or altogether ignored, given a lack of immediate services. Such resources could aid in the prosecution of many and protect the health and well-being of so many victims.
Colorado’s proposal may introduce these services locally, rather than on the college campus itself. Victims would be referred to the nearest facility and would then receive the proper care and compassion only a trained professional can provide. In addition, staff members and dorm resident assistants would receive training regarding the policies to ensure every college is aware of how to handle this process efficiently.
Introducing the proper immediate services for victims of sexual assault is not only necessary for the victim’s benefit, but also for a quick and efficient trial, should the victim decide to take legal action. Please sign this petition to urge Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper to implement proper services for victims of sexual assault on college campuses.
Dear Governor Hickenlooper,
I was very pleased to learn of Colorado’s proposal to implement immediate services for victims of sexual assault on college campuses. This issue has become far too common and it is clear more can be done to properly deal with the aftermath of this crime and protect victims. I urge you to do everything in your power to introduce proper services for victims and ensure college sexual assault does not go unaddressed.
Currently, many colleges are considered far too passive in dealing with alleged cases of sexual assault. The mere presence of immediate services for victims may begin to change attitudes toward campus sexual assault in Colorado and across the nation. College students will take solace in the fact that their school is doing everything it can to ensure safety and promote well-being following a traumatic experience.
I hope you consider each and every positive effect this decision will have on so many. Please continue plans to implement immediate services for victims of sexual assault and vow to take action on this widespread issue.
